I will quote from their update following the last free day. As a backer, I'd personally prefer to share the benefits I paid for. People other than backers have been able to enjoy the perk essentially at the cost of the backers, including myself, which I do think is somewhat unfair, but also was unavoidable.

It was posted in reddit and facebook as well when it was first released for free for a day, and it will be again, if it's not already. You're totally naive to think that this wouldn't be posted otherwise. IF you live in the WST zone, the price change occurs at 2AM March 20th through 1:59AM March 21st. If you live in Australia (with three time zones), that price is good for March 20th from 12AM until 11:59PM March 20th. Portugal, UK and Ireland are one hour later. If you live in Spain or most of Europe, that price is good for March 20th from 12AM until 11:59PM March 20th because most of Europe is in the CET zone.
Stay with me here… that means If you live in the US in the EST zone, that price will be in place from 3AM March 20th until 3AM March 21st. The app is set for free for March 20th - The price will change at midnight (12AM) March 20th to $0, then change back to the original price at 11:59PM on March 20th. The free app time period will differ according to your time zone region! Look up your times in advance to make sure you do not miss it!
